If you've been thinking that you need to get more organized in the new year, you're in luck when it comes to organizing your Squidoo lenses.
This SquidBlog post is a heads up on the new, three-level categorizing system coming soon to a Squidoo near you. I think everyone will be thrilled to know that we will soon be able to categorize, sub-categorize, and sub-subcategorize each of our lenses. (Well, not everyone. Sometimes change doesn't come easily to Squidoo lensmasters, but I digress.) Clearly, having a new, more specific way to assign topics to our lenses should be a good change.
Once the system is live, lenses will be re-ranked within the new topic areas. Seems to me this should allow more lenses to rank higher on more top 100 lists, but we shall see. Before the new topic ranking is published, Squidoo will allow a week or two for lensmasters to go through our lenses and find a proper topical home for each one using a bulk topic recategorizer tool.
I love the timing of this release in that it coincides with the natural inclination many of us seem to have this time of year to tidy up and organize our belongings, including our pages on Squidoo. Begin thinking of how you'd like to group your lenses and watch for further announcements of the new topics. This is one change I'm really looking forward to.
How about you? Does re-categorization of your lenses sound like a positive move? I'd love to read your thoughts in a comment below.
It's a long time in coming, Susan. I welcome it. ...Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteI am anxious to see what the new levels look like. Some of my lenses could really use a little tighter definition.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think they need more categories, as there hasn't been a very appropriate category for several of my lenses.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun! I'm looking forward to the changes.
ReplyDeleteI am excited too! and I think the new categories will make us all a bit more google friendly, too!
ReplyDeleteI came across this a few days ago, and I quickly moved to jump on board with the changes that Squidoo made. I think it will have a positive impact, and it will make the entire site better. I do have a question, though. I reorganized all of my lenses. However, every day I am being asked to do it again on some of those lenses. Have you heard of anyone else experiencing this?
ReplyDeletegtalan, I really don't know. Let me check and get back with you on that.
ReplyDeletegtalan, you're not alone. This is apparently a bug on Squidoo. Hopefully on Monday things will get better situated. The topic is being discussed on SquidU, here.
ReplyDeleteUsing the new categories has helped me more closely "group" some of my lenses, but I hope they are not stopping with what they have. I don't believe they are expansive enough to suit the needs of all lensmasters. As an example, I have recently completed ten lenses related to mules (the animal kind) and am currently working on two more. I was very frustrated to not find it among the last sub-topic. I had to settle for "other farm animals". Not very satisfactory, actually. But, I do like the categories; I just hope they will be continually adding to them to increase the choices.
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteIt is my understanding that the lens categories will, indeed, be expanded. I'm sure there are multiple conversations on SquidU about what's missing and likely you've added your suggestions there. You're not the only one I know who writes about mules!
