Turn a Blog Post into a Squidoo Lens

They don't call Seth Godin a genius because he isn't. I've never read anyone else who can take a simple concept and turn it into a light bulb moment for his readers the way Seth does, and then turn around in a day or two and do it again with a different concept, and do that same thing again and again. For me, reading anything Seth Godin writes almost always elicits a simple "Wow," or "I wish I had thought of that," or even an "I never would have thought of that!" I especially like it when the result is an "I can do that!" That's what happened today.

I ran across this lens of Seth's on Squidoo. While the topic is a simple, though important one, what I got out of it was this: Seth took a blog post and turned it into a Squidoo lens. He probably does that all the time (he certainly could), but this one happened to catch my eye, especially because of the module entitled "Inspired by the Blog Post." (insert smiley here)

So, are you a blogger? (I hope you are.) Do you need more Squidoo lenses? (Of course you do!) Here's my challenge to you. Find an awesome blog post, one you're really proud of, and turn it into a Squidoo lens. Add related material from Amazon.com or elsewhere to give the lens some extra meat, then link the blog and the lens together. Squidcast the lens, tweet about it (you are on Twitter, right?), and see what happens. Then come back here and leave your lens link in a comment. Tell me if this was an "I can do that!" moment for you.

P.S. Don't say I don't practice what I preach. Here's the lens I just made about this blog post!

  1. What a great idea, I often do this in reverse. I make blog posts about my lenses.

I'm going to have to work on this one.

  3. You are so helping me to learn as I awkwardly swim the Squidoo ocean. I'm a newbie, working hard at learning the best channels to navigate. Thanks for being here. I'll probably call out for a life jacket now and then.
